We lack the finance to keep good players - Fianoo

AshantiGold Chief Executive Officer Kudjoe Fianoo says TP Mazembe’s recent dominance of African club football with a largely Ghanaian spine reflects the decline of Ghanaian clubs generally.

The Congo DR outfit won their fifth African club title last year to pick up the slot available to the continent at December’s World Club Championships with three Ghanaians in their starting line up for the final and a fourth on as substitute.

Fianoo reckons that the contribution of Daniel Nii Adjei, Yaw Frimpong, Richard Kissi-Boateng and Solomon Asante proves talent exist in Ghana but says Ghanaian clubs don’t have the financial muscle to make the most out of them.

What we are going through now which is very worrying is that now clubs from Congo can come in and snatch our best players. Look at TP Mazembe, look at the Ghanaians in there. Those guys like Kiss, Awako and Asante made Chelsea gel, they took Chelsea into the money zone.

They are applying their trade now with TP Mazembe and they are going round poaching the best players.

When I look at the salary levels we are paying the players we will continue to lose the players. I think TP Mazembe is teaching us that lesson that we should go for the best and keep them for over a long time.
