We didn’t chase away NDC executives – Dalung Chief

The chief of Dalung in the Northern region Dalunglana Halidu Mahama has dismissed claims that some high powered delegation of the ruling NDC party in the region were chased out of his Palace by some angry youth of Dalung.

According to him, what happened on Friday at the community market square "was a display of youthful exuberance by people of all walks of life" who came to the meeting uninvited.

Reports emerged over the weekend that some NDC executives in the region led by the party's parliamentary candidate for the Kumbungu constituency Ras Mubarak embarked on an election campaign at the area but were hooted away by some irate youth.

Starr News sources say the youth were livid by the government’s failure to deliver on its promises of developing the area.

The angry youth also claim a promise by government to their chief to construct the Dalun-Tamale road has not been fulfilled.

However, in an exclusive interview with Starr News the chief maintained that he received the executives at the palace and they were never chased out of the community.

According to the Chief, who spoke through a spokesperson, Alhassan Abubakar, a misunderstanding ensued between the executives and some youth at the market square after they had left his palace to address the youth.

He said he particularly had a fruitful discussion with the NDC executives and even offered them strategies to recapture the Kumbungu seat, currently held by the CPP.

"On Friday we were here when the NDC top hierarchy led by the dep. regional minister. A.B.A Fuseini came here wanting to address developmental issues about the constituency.

“As all know during the bye election there was a shift of power from NDC to CPP so they wanted see how they can address the issue trying to reclaim the seat; so the chief told them vehemently that they lost the seat because they did not play their cards well and that they took the people for granted,” he said.


He continued: "When they even gave him a cola of GHc 100 he rejected it saying that they needed it to speed up development and also carry out their campaign activities, and when they insisted, he was adamant and said he only wanted to see the party reclaim the seat.

“He also advised them to address the developmental issues of the constituency so that the seat would be reclaimed citing the bad road network from Tamale to Nawuni. So in a nutshell, it wasn't that our leaders were hooted and chased away but there was a misunderstanding as long as youthful exuberance is concern. People came in with all sort of manners which couldn't be controlled".

Dalunlana Mahama also disclosed that he is a member of the governing National Democratic Party and would vote for the party in the upcoming November polls.

The Chief said he was affiliated to the NDC because the party was able to create and maintain lasting peace in the region especially after the unfortunate murder of the Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II.

He said he has always been a member of the NDC and would always ensure that the party remains in power so that his people can enjoy.
