Unemployed charged for preparation to commit crime

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Prince Effah, unemployed, into Police custody for preparation to commit crime.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo told the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh that the complainants were Policemen stationed at the Regional Police Headquarters, Accra, while the accused person resides at Agbogbloshie, Accra.

He said on April 20, acting upon information received by the command, which indicated that a group of armed robbers numbering six were planning to go on a robbery expedition at Kasoa.

He said based upon the information, men from the Regional Intelligence Team were dispatched to monitor and arrest the suspects.

The Prosecution said the Police arrived at Beyeeman, cold store traffic light on Graphic Road and spotted a Kia saloon car, which Police identified as the vehicle which was going to be used for the robbery.

He said when the Police advanced towards the vehicle and in attempt to arrest the suspects but one of them Richard Owusu Gyemfi @ ‘Abodam’ now deceased came out of the said vehicle with locally manufactured pistol, which he attempted firing at the Police, but was gunned down immediately.

“Other Accused in the vehicle were arrested and when the vehicle was searched, a black bag of the accused which contained two ‘BB’ cartridges, a screw driver, an axe and an electric fence cutter was found,” he said.

He said the accused was brought to the station for investigation and the body of the deceased was deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

During investigation, accused admitted the offence and told Police that he and his gang had committed series of robberies around Kasoa and Obuasi.
