Students abandon classrooms to hunt for mushrooms

Some students in the Assin North District in the Central Region have abandoned their classrooms and have gone in search of mushrooms to supplement the income of their parents.

Their action, according to the community leaders, is as a result of the early rains which has made the availability of the commodity in abundant supply.

“Ever since the rains started, the mushroom business has been lucrative. So we want to make some money to support our parents in funding our education”, said an anonymous Junior High School student who was spotted at the road side on the Assin Praso-Nyakomase-Assin Fosu road stretch selling the commodity.

Teachers of these students, this website is told, are finding it very difficult to get them back to the classrooms because their parents are not cooperating.
