The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) is urging the government to act swiftly to end the menace of political party vigilantism which is proving pervasive in the Ghanaian society.
The menace, the coalition explains if left unchecked will not only destabilise the security of the country but deaths eventually are recorded.
Addressing the media in Cape Coast as part of its roundtable stakeholder discussions on the menace of political party vigilantism and Ghana’s electoral politics, the National Coordinator for CODEO, Mr.Albert Kofi Arhin called for the strict implementation of some agreed strategies which include providing a security of tenure for the IGP which will embolden the police to deal with the menace.
He explained that until the undercurrents of vigilantism are dealt with, there is no way the issue can be dealt with thereby bringing an end to the violence that tend to characterise elections and its aftermath.
