Shoemaker wins Kofikrom Arm-wrestling Championship

A Kumasi-based shoemaker, Yaw Danso, emerged winner in the Kofikrom Arm-wrestling Championship held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last weekend.

He notched a 2-1 victory over his opponent, Nafiu Mohammed, who came into the competition with high hopes and even with an injury, he fought to the finals.

The winner took home a prestigious trophy and a cash prize of GH?1,000 as well as medical products.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Yaw Danso said he had a good run for his money because all the opponents he faced were strong and also determined to win just like him.

He added that his target to conquer the other regions in the regional championships to be held later and subsequently move to Africa and the world at large.

The third place battle was done in a record time of 12mins, 37secs between Ibrahim Abdulai and Aware with Abdulai winning the third place and received a cash prize of $100.

The side of attraction was a special media battle which saw TV3’s Bright Nanfo defeating Nathaniel Laryea to clinch the media title.

On his part, the interim President of the Ghana Arm-wrestling Federation (GAF), Mr Charles Osei Assibey, said he was happy with the turn-out compared to the Accra competition.

He said there will be other competitions across the country and then a national event to get a national champion who will represent Ghana in international competitions.

He thanked the media and the people of Kumasi for their support in making the event a success.

The competition was organised by United Media Consult Limited under the supervision of the Ghana Arm-Wrestling Federation and sponsored by Kofikrom Pharmacy Limited.
