SOS appeal for a wholesome water supply!!

Geneva (Swiss)—The Management of Kwahu Hospital located in Ghana’s Eastern region has launched an SOS appeal for a “wholesome” water supply for the hospital, at an emergency meeting here.

The appeal is contained a solemn-worded statement, signed by Dr. I.R. Osabutey, Doctor-in-charge of the hospital, and released during a meeting with some Executive members of the Switzerland-based Okwahuman Association, a non-governmental organization, currently in the country.

The Association’s two-member delegation on fact-finding mission is head by its President, Dr. Abena Adjepong, and analytical Psychologist. The other member is Dr. Kwame Dankwa, a Physician Specialist.

A release singed by the association’s vice-President, Mr. Kwaku Boatin here says the hospital, located on the high Kwahu Mountain, directed its appeal to voluntary organizations and philanthropists to assist it, to enable the hospital undertake its obligatory functions, by providing quality and maximum, effective and proper health care to the people.

According to the statement, the hospital’s sole bole-whole water supply is at presently contaminated with high concentration of iron and manganese elements, which make the water reddish and unsuitable for use in the hospital.

Read full statement: “As a result of the perennial water shortage in the hospital, the hospital management team has endeavored over the years to maintain the hospital bole-hole, which has been filled with a submersible pump to ensure regular supply of water for all uses.

“However, the water from the borehole has high concentration of iron and manganese elements which make the water reddish and unsuitable for use

“In an effort to solve the problem, we have contacted a Water Management Consultant to test the water and submit a proposal for the purification of water.”

Earlier, speaking at the meeting Dr. Osabutey also appealed to the public, especially Kwahu citizens in and outside Ghana and other sympathizers to assist it to develop its modern Library, which he explained, programmed be well equipped with computers and well furnished with medical books and journals, adding that the additional acquired experience and knowledge will enhance our efforts in provision of quality care.

Work on the library, has already been started, he declared, adding “we need public support to finish and equip the Library project.

Dr. Osabutey expressed his sincere thanks to the Swiss Okwahuman Association, which recently donated hospital ambulance to hospital and assured them that the ambulance is being put to proper use, and effectively working in the interest of the people, and all those plying on the Accra-Kumasi road to the North, Brong-Ahafo and Afram Plaines areas.
