Director of the Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) should not be deceived by the victory of US Republican candidate Donald Trump. According to him, the US situation is totally different from Ghana’s.

“So, we cannot compare apples and mangoes,” he stressed. Mr Ofosu Ampofo made these remarks on Wednesday, November 9 while addressing party supporters at Adum Banso in the Mpohor Constituency of the Western Region.

‘Encouraged & emboldened’ He pointed out that what has happened in the US has “encouraged and emboldened” the NDC ahead of the December 7 elections.

“We are encouraged and emboldened by what has happened in the US to activate our organizational machinery and move from house-to-house, community-to-community and intensify our campaign.”

Donald Trump beat Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton to emerge winner of the November 8 US elections.

A message of congratulation sent by Ghana’s opposition leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday said: “I commend the Republican Party, the sister party of the New Patriotic Party and a fellow member of the International Democrat Union (IDU), for maintaining control of the Senate, thereby presenting the President-Elect a minimum of two years of a ‘unified’ government.”

But Mr Ofosu Ampofo, a Vice Chairman of the NDC, said Mr Trump was standing as a fresh candidate while US President Barack Obama had completed his term.

In Ghana, he said, President Mahama is going for reelection while Nana Akufo-Addo is making a third attempt.

“We have a president,” he emphasized.

Therefore, he said, NPP are deceiving themselves Ghana’s elections will go for them. He said that party has no principles “so they jump from one point to the other”.

Door-to-door, window-to-window He called on party supporters to rather intensify campaign ahead of the elections.

NDC supporters must intensify the campaign from “village-to-village, market-to-market, house-to-house, door-to-door, window-to-window, bed-to-bed,” he urged.

Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur called on the party’s supporters to make sure President John Mahama gets re-elected.

He asked them to brood over what Mr Ofosu Ampofo has told them to make sure they spread the word into every nook and cranny.
