Abdul Baba Rahman’s lack of first team opportunities at Chelsea is set to prolong after Branislav Ivanovic returned to training ahead of the side’s UEFA Champions League clash against Dynamo Kiev.

The Serbian trained with the squad on Tuesday to hand beleaguered manager Jose Mourinho a timely boost ahead of the crucial clash with the Ukrainian side.

The return of Ivanovic possesses further problems for the Ghana international who has struggled to command a regular spot in the team.

Even in the absence of the 31-year-old, Rahman has been overlooked for Premier League games by Portuguese Jose Mourinho with his current woes set to continue at Stamford Bridge.

Ivanovic has spent the last three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Nevertheless, his return to fitness will come as a major fillip for Mourinho, whose job is under serious threat.

The Blues are third at the halfway point of their Champions League group and are in need a win against Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday.
