The Corporate Affairs Manager of Accra Hearts of Oak, Joe Addo, has called on referees in the Ghana Premier League to protect local stars in the ongoing domestic top-flight competition.

Key players of the various cl There has been widely concern regarding the quality of play exhibited on the field as lack of interest in the local league has been attributed to the poor football display by players in the country’s top-flight division.

And according to the current chief scout of Hearts of Oak, for the Ghana Premier League to have huge patronage, referees must protect local stars from wild tackles.

“In world football referees protects stars, a foul on Cristiano Ronaldo will get the referee’s attention but a foul on Ramires and Koke the referee will ignore it because there are certain players in the game that referees do protect because those players name attract fans to the stadium.

“So the referees in Ghana should protect the Premier League stars. Kotoko players who can attract fans to the stadium are injured, and Samudeen Ibrahim was tackled from behind and the player who went in for the tackle shouldn’t have been on the field so for our local league to attract fans to the stadium the referees must protect those players.” Addo told Happy FM.

The Ghana Premier League which came off last weekend saw massive attendance across the eight league centres and it is been expected to continue this weekend.
