Prof. Dodoo faces Privileges Committee of Parliament over Ebola ignorant comment

Professor Alex Dodoo Professor Alex Dodoo

Prof. Alex Dodoo is expected to appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament today for questioning over his recent remarks about members of the legislature on the Ebola trial vaccination exercise.

The encounter will take place at the New Block, Room 1 at 14:00 GMT, according to the Order Paper for the Thirtieth Sitting of the Second Meeting of Parliament.

Prof. Dodoo incurred the wrath of the Members of Parliament following his criticism that they (MPs) were ignorant and lacked knowledge the Phase 1 of the Ebola Vaccine trial which was being held at the Hohoe Municipality.

The MPs had called on the Speaker to immediately order for the cessation of the Phase 1 of the Ebola Vaccine trial until enough consultations were made.

But their call was objected to by Prof. Dodoo. He said those calling for the cessation of the trial lacked knowledge about the whole exercise.

The MPs who could not contain the remarks made by Dodoo lodged a complaint to the Speaker at a plenary sitting and prayed that he (Prof. Dodoo) be hauled before the Privileges Committee for questioning.

The Speaker after listening to the arguments advanced by Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin, MP for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah and MP for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, granted their wish.

Prof. Alex Dodoo is an Associate Professor in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Ghana Medical School.
