Political party agents hail pilot voter registration in E/R

Appointed agents of the two leading political parties – National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have hailed the just ended voter registration exercise piloted at Sokode-Juaso in Abuakwa North and Effiduase Community Centre in the New Juaben North Constituencies, in the Eastern Region.
The exercise carried out in selected areas across the nation by the Electoral Commission (EC) was meant to test the efficiency of the biometric registration devices.

Mr. Ernest Oti Akenteng, the NPP’s agent at the Effiduase Centre, said he was satisfied not just with the performance of the machines but the entire process.

His counterpart from the ruling NDC, Mr. Edem Bloavo, shared the same view and told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that his expectations were met.

A total of 49 new voters had their names captured in the electoral roll during the exercise at the Effiduase Centre.

People, who attempted to use the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Card to register were however disappointed as the biometric registration machine rejected their application.

Ms. Agnes Osei Bonsu, an official of the EC, expressed joy that the intended purpose was achieved.

The machines were functional and did not present any technical glitches.
