Officials of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have confirmed that police officers from Mile 7 are investigating the robbery attack on the team.

Communications Manager of the Porcupine Warrior, Kwaku Ahenkorah disclosed that, they are optimistic that the perpetrators of the dastardly act will be arrested and made to face the full rigor of the law.

Speaking to Accra based JOY FM, Kweku Ahenkorah said “the police have assured us that they have started a nationwide search for the robbers and we are confident that they will do everything possible to arrest the robbers. They have to because it is difficult to even recount what happened that dawn. I don’t want to relive it or narrate it again.”

The entire Kotoko team was allegedly attacked at their Taifa based hotel, prior to their crucial league game against Hearts of Oak in Accra on Sunday, August 2.

Four unmasked robbers wielding machetes and kitchen knives struck around 2am; broke into the rooms of the players and officials who were then sleeping.

They invaded the rooms of General Manager, Opoku Nti and Operations Manager, George Kennedy and attacked them.

The robbers subsequently raided the rooms of striker, Dauda Mohammed; Assistant Coach Michael Osei and Head Coach, David Duncan. They ripped bedsheets of their victims, tied their hands and legs before throwing them out of their rooms.

They bolted with GHc25,000 – the total amount of money taken from the Operations Manager’s room and the head coach.

The incident led to calls for the game to be called off, but a marathon meeting between officials of Kotoko and officials of the GFA/ Premier League Board convinced Kotoko to honour the game.

The Porcupine Warriors went on to beat their arch rivals 2-1 at the Accra sports stadium to deepen the relegation woes of the Phobians.
