The Public Utility Regulatory Commission, (PURC), has held a meeting with leaders of the Trades Union Congress as signals of an imminent tariff increment intensifies.

The PURC has wrapped up its nationwide consultations on the review of tariffs in conformity with current services being provided by the utility service providers.

Some consumers have been angered by reports of tariff hikes sanctioned by the President.

The Managing Director of WAPco, Walter Perez at a press conference on Wednesday, indicated that President Mahama through Cabinet has directed the PURC to increase tariffs to help offset about $180 million debt owed by the Volta River Authority (VRA).

But the PURC has stated that it cannot be forced into taking a decision on the matter.

The Communication Director of the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah said PURC is an independent regulatory body and not subject to the control or directive of any organization.
