EPP BOOKS Services, Ghana’s leading publisher and largest book distributor last Thursday 24th March launched a special project aimed at donating quantities of books to various schools and other institutions of learning and research across the country.

Worth over 5 million Ghana cedis, the donation, forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility of supporting teaching and learning in the various educational institutions.

The special guest of honor, Her Excellency Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur who doubles as Ghana second lady, lauded the project and hence admonished EPP to come up with mini libraries for schools without libraries so they keep the books in them.

Her Excellency Mrs. Amissah-Arthur also revealed the importance of reading and called on the well-to-do in society to help schools and communities build libraries. She advised schools children and teachers as well to take up reading as a habit.

“EPP must come up with a program to empower teachers, who in turn transfer such skills into encouraging the kids to read.” She added.

The president of the Ghana Library Association, who are partners of the initiative, Prof. P.S Dadzie was full of praise and appreciation of EPP Books for the laudable effort. She lamented the poor state of libraries at the various institutions across the country.

“This initiative could not have come at a better time. I am therefore appealing to corporate organizations to support EPP Books through the provision of infrastructure to stock books.” She said

Mrs. Millicent Brookman-Amissah, who delivered the welcome address on behalf of the CEO of EPP Books Services, Gibrine Adams, said the initiative is in fulfilment of a promise he and his company made to support the educational system in Ghana, through the supply of books and other learning materials.

“I have a very deep understanding of what it is not to have the benefit of teaching and learning materials while in education.” he said

“This is what ignited a promise I and my company made some years back to support our educational system anytime the opportunity presents itself. This is what we are about to start today.” He added

Some selected schools were present to grace the occasion and were given 10,000 Ghana cedis worth of books and learning materials.
