No cash no game; Stars demand bonuses ahead of Comoros clash

Reports reaching Allsports.com.gh indicate that the senior male national football team of Ghana have refused to board the chartered flight for their World Cup qualifier against Comoros Island due to agitation over outstanding winning bonuses.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports delayed payment of winning bonus for the Black Stars emphatic 7-0 win over Mauritius and were only forced to pay prior to the team’s game against Rwanda, following a meeting between the playing body and the ministry and even that players who played that game but were not available for the Rwanda clash were overlooked.

And again the Black Stars have not been paid the bonus due them, since they edged their Rwandan counterparts 0-1 on September 5 in Kigali.

The Black Stars team, who were reportedly upset with earlier news of a possible slash of winning bonus from $10,000 to $5,000, have decided to collect their winning bonus which has been in arrears, before boarding the flight to Comoros Island for the World Cup qualifier.

There are talks ongoing between the GFA, Ministry and the Black Stars to settle issues amicably.

The first leg of the World Cup qualifier comes off on Friday in Comoros, before the return leg on next week Tuesday in Kumasi.
