NPP is confident in the EC-Ohene Ntow

Accra, March 03, GNA - Nana Ohene Ntow, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday affirmed the party's confidence in the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure a successful general election in December 2008.

"The NPP believes in the credibility of the EC and the electoral process regardless of comments about bloated register which people have not taken pain to cross check", he said, after a close door meeting with the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwodwo Afari-Djan.

He said, the party had not received any official complaint about any bloated register from any group or political party and expressed worry about the manner in which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was spreading rumours about a purported bloated register in some parts of the Ashanti Region.

Nana Ntow said issues concerning the voters' register need not to be belittled since it could jeopardize the peace and stability the country was enjoying.

"Issues like these must be discussed in a responsible manner that will not jeopardize the security and development of the country", Nana Ntow added.

He said the attention of the Inter Party Advisory Committee had been drawn to the matter and would soon meet to deliberate on the matter.

He said, "as a nation, we should develop trust and confidence in our electoral process" and asked the media not to be swayed into other people's interest.
