A former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Ayikoi Otoo has warned the ruling NDC to desist from meddling in the Electoral Commission's affairs.

He noted that the EC is an independent organization and must be allow to operate on its own without any interference from government.

Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo's comment comes after the NDC waded into an appeal by some Ghanaians that the EC must extend the limited voters registeration exercise to enable eligible Ghanaians to register.

According to most members of the incumbent government, the process must not be giving any ample time for the non-registered to register.

But speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie' the NPP leading member opined that – “It is not needed for those not working for the EC to be speaking for them. The EC itself doesn’t talk, but you will find out that the NDC and others will be talking more for the EC.”

Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo further noted that – majority of the electorates couldn’t register due to the time frame – “But instead of allowing the EC to work, the NDC is shouting. . .They [NDC] should stop that. The EC can speak for itself.”

“The EC should also sometimes be proactive. When they see such things, they should come out and condemn it,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.
