Mystery behind David Duncan’s light green shirt

Sportsmen such as sprinters, footballers, coaches, etc. have several reasons for doing certain things they are fond of on the field of play or on the touchline.

Some believe what they wear and the colour of their shirt even bring them luck to emerge victorious during difficult moments.

Sportsmen like Harve Renard, the first coach to win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with two different countries, namely Zambia and Ivory Coast, always stands on the touchline in his white shirt. The current Black Stars coach, Avram Grant stuck to his blue shirt after he started winning games in that attire during the AFCON 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.

David Duncan shifted from his usual white shirt to his new found light green shirt in his last four league games and has brought him some sort of luck, winning 3 and losing only 1, including three straight wins for Kumasi Asante Kotoko fc for the first time this season: beat Ashgold on match day 24, before edging Hearts of Oak 2-1 in Accra on match day 25 and crowned it with their 3-1 thrashing of Wa All Stars on Wednesday.

When David Duncan was quizzed about the reasons for changing from his usual white shirt to the new light green shirt, he revealed that the erratic power supply ‘Dumsor’ in the country forced him to resort to his new outfit and there is no superstition attached.

“I didn’t change to this new shirt due to superstition, but I admire this because it requires no ironing, and the current ‘Dumsor’ makes it easy to wear. Moreover, my family is not here with me to assist in ironing, so I do everything all by myself.

“I would have dumped the shirt if I wore it to bring me luck because Kotoko lost against WAFA the first time I was in it,” he said.

Asante Kotoko are currently lying 5 on the league log with 4 matches to go, which is a massive improvement on their performance in the ongoing league.
