Marcel Desailly Cup launched

Marcel Desailly Foundation launched the MD Cup on Wednesday at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra ahead of the two-day competition slated for June 4 and 5.

The maiden football tournament to be held in honour of ex France defender Marcel Desailly will feature young boys within the various age groups of U-13, U-15 and U-17.

Speaking at the media launch, technical director of Lizzy Sports Complex Nana Agyemang indicated that the competition seeks to revive colt’s football as well as unearth young talents for the future.

“This tournament is here to stay. We intend to revive colt’s football and discover the great talents hidden in the country.” “The competition will help develop these young boys as well as give them the needed exposure.” He revealed.

The MD Cup will feature eight teams in all age categories from June 4-5 with winners of each category taking home the ultimate trophy plus autographed jerseys from the legend Marcel Desailly and other souvenirs.

The competition is specifically for youth development purposes and tailored for youth teams and footballers.
