Former Ashanti Regional Minister under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Samuel Sarpong has said President John Dramani Mahama later regretted his decision after removing him from office as the Ashanti Regional Minister.
“The First Lady called and told me that the President has regretted for removing me as Regional Minister”, Hon. Samuel Sarpong revealed on a local radio station, Fox FM.
“The wife told him [John Mahama] this decision you took will affect the NDC party in the region”, Hon. Samuel Sarpong further revealed on ‘Hard Ball’ with the host King Abdallah.
According to former Managing Director of State Transport Cooperation (STC), elements within the party at both the regional and national levels worked against him while in office compelling the President to take such an incomprehensible decision against him.
“Some of our members lied about me and the President took and indecisive decision on that”, the immediate past STC MD and aspiring NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman alleged.
He stated that President John Mahama with immediate effect withdrew his appointment and that of his Deputy, Joseph Yammin.
Reason for the President’s decision has since remained unknown but sources claimed it may have been fuelled by a deteriorating relationship between the Minister and his Deputy at the time.
Hon. Samuel Sarpong who served under late President John Mills as Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive was later reassigned to head STC whilst his Deputy, Joseph Yamin was also given another opportunity as Deputy Coordinator at National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO)
Both are currently aspiring to lead the party in the region in various capacities.
