Mahama is the real workaholic President of our time - Kasoa Chief

The Chief of the Gomoa Nyamebekyere Traditional area, Nana Okofo Gyasi Yeyii Omanano II has described President John Dramani Mahama as a leader who is committed to working relentlessly to bring hope to his people.

Nana Okofo Gyasi’s comment comes at the backdrop of government’s decision to construct an interchange at Kasoa in the Central Region to ease traffic on that stretch of the road.

The $172.6 million project will have an upper level flyover in the Accra-Winneba direction aimed at removing the current congestion at the intersection and allow free flow of traffic.

President Mahama in the countdown to the 2012 elections pledged under the “Advancing the Better Ghana Agenda” to “promote a thorough decentralized governance agenda in a manner that empowers regions and districts to acquire the needed resources and capacities to make decisions and be accountable to citizens.”

To this end, the NDC’s 2012 Manifesto earmarked some developmental projects including the construction of the Komenda Sugar Factory, construction of two hundred (200) new Community Day Senior High Schools, ten new Colleges of Education, and the expansion of the Tamale Airport into Ghana’s second international airport among others.

In fulfillment of his pledge, President Mahama has already cut sod for the commencement of work on the Komenda Sugar factory, the Tamale International Airport, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange and the latest being the proposed Kasoa interchange.

However, the recent economic downturn in the country has provoked some critics of the President who believe he is doing little to restore hope to the populace.

But speaking in an interview with Montie FM’s Mugabe Marsi on Adekyi Mu Nsem, Monday, Nana Okofo Gyasi Yeyii Omanano II disagreed with the assertion that President Mahama is not performing.

“When I look at the magnitude of developmental projects ongoing in the capital, Kwame Nkrumah Circle to be precise, the Kotokoraba Market in the Central Region, the Ada and Akatsi sea defence, water projects in the Ashanti Region, I ask myself whether it is the same President some people are accusing of not working,” he said.

The Amankrado of Gomoa Nyamebekyere also bemoaned what he described as cynicism among some section of the citizenry blaming it for the economic woes of the country.

He added, it is time the populace rally behind President Mahama in his bid to transform the country and improve the living conditions of the people.

“It is important we understand that President Mahama cannot turn the fortunes of the country in a day by performing a miracle. It takes time to develop. Those who believe the country is in distress should change their attitude and think positively,” he bewailed.
