Koforidua, March 25, GNA - Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Ghana at the end of the year 2009, increased its subscribers by 24 percent to 8 million.
Additionally, the company maintained its market share of 55 percent, despite fierce competition through improvement in network quality and capacity, enhanced value proportions, MTN zone offering and loyalty programmes.
Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications MTN Ghana, disclosed this at the Eastern Regional launch of the MTN's external newsletter and editor's forum in Koforidua, and acknowledged the role of the media in the achievement. The MTN external newsletter is a platform to exchange free information between the MTN and the public, especially its customers to help improve upon services.
Mrs Fiagbenu said MTN Ghana had supported national development by implementing health and education projects.
She said that the MTN in its two years of existence had invested more than GHC 2 million in transforming the wellbeing of the people. Mrs Fiagbenu said as the official sponsor of the South Africa 2010 World Cup, the company would continue to initiate activities that would allow football lovers worldwide to be part of the excitement "as we cheer the black stars on to victory".
Mr Francis Annor-Dompreh, Regional Vice Chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), in a statement urged MTN to provide a column for feed back from its clients to enable the company know the challenges and how best to improve upon them.
He commended MTN for working to improve the lives of people and showing interest in sporting activities, notably the sponsoring of the 2010 World Cup.
Mr. Annor Dompreh expressed the hope that MTN as part of its collaborative efforts with the media in the region would adopt and sponsor a sporting discipline and assured MTN of the GJA's support. 26 March 10
