MOYS consoles Anim’s family

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has said it learnt with deep shock and great sorrow, the tragic death of Samuel Anim, Ghana’s National Cycling Champion, through a motor accident at Aburi.

"We recall with a deep sense of nostalgia the contributions of this illustrious son of the land to our national development efforts in the area of sports where his achievements in cycling stood tall."

A statement signed by Otto Plahar, Head of Public Relations said, the death of the national star at the peak of his career is a sad event that “We are yet to come to full terms with an undeserved epilogue to an otherwise illustrious career.

“In this moment of national loss, the Minister on behalf of Government, the staff of the Ministry and its agencies, wish to express their heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family, the President of the Cycling Federation as well as the entire sports fraternity.”

Anim, participated in the first ever African Cycling Championship in Rwanda in 2011 followed by the Second African Cycling Championship in Egypt in 2013.

His last major tour was his participation in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014.

Anim, met his untimely death in the course of preparing for the upcoming All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville in September.
