Life imprisonment will curb lynching - Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko

Nephew of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has indicated that tougher jail terms for persons who partake in mob action in Ghana will help in dealing with the age-old problem in Ghana.

Commenting on the lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama on his Facebook page on Thursday June 1, Mr Otchere-Darko, who is also a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said: “The biggest threat to mob killing today is a smartphone. How big the threat will be determined by what the state does with the video evidence.”

He added: “When we start sentencing those who take part in mob killing to life imprisonment, then we will start succeeding with the education against it.”

Captain Mahama was lynched by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region after he was allegedly mistaken to be an armed robber on Monday May 29.

He is survived by two little boys and a wife.
