Let’s prove we are democratic – Mahama to delegates

President John Mahama has urged members of the ruling National Democratic Congress who will be voting in tomorrow’s presidential and parliamentary primaries to do so peacefully.

He said the party has a duty to prove to Ghanaians that theirs is a party that gives leadership opportunities to individuals regardless of their backgrounds.

In a Facebook post Friday , Mr Mahama said the NDC will prove after their primaries that they are an all-inclusive democracy.

“My brothers and sisters in the NDC, tomorrow we will hold our primaries. We have a great opportunity to show that we are an example of inclusive democracy.

“Tomorrow we will prove that NDC is a party in which everyone has a voice. In our party, we are not stuck in power struggles, and everybody has a chance to become a candidate.

“Empowering the powerless, strengthening equality, giving everyone a voice– these are ideals we hold very dear in the NDC. Let every Ghanaian be inspired by our ideals, let your brothers and sisters in the NDC be proud of you,” the President wrote.

Delegates of the NDC will go to the polls in 274 out of the 275 constituencies across the country to elect their parliamentary candidates for the 2016 elections.

President John Mahama who is contesting unopposed is expected to receive an overwhelming endorsement from the umbrella family. The polls will open at 7am and close at 3pm. The electoral commission will supervise the elections. The party is voting for the first time , with its newly developed, biometric register.
