Kufuor to deliver lecture in Germany

Accra, Sept. 12, GNA - Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, leaves Accra Saturday evening for Berlin, Germany, to participate in a series of high-level lectures on global economic governance.

He was invited by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF), a German non-governmental political organization, which initiated the programme early this year, on the theme: 'The Social Market Economy in an International Context'.

A statement signed by Mr. Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson, Office of Former President Kufuor, said: "the programme is aimed at reflecting different economic policy approaches to solving the development problems in the world in the wake of the recent global financial crisis." It said Former President Kufuor would speak on: 'An African Perspective on the Social Market Economy', in which he would discuss the benefits of public-private partnership as a development model for least developed economies.

The statement said that he would hold talks with a number of dignitaries including Dr Horst Koehler, former President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Christoph Heusgen, Head of Foreign Relations and Security at the Office of the German Federal Chancellor, Mrs Ingrid Schawan, Federal Minister of Education and Hartwig Fischer, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson for Economic Cooperation with Africa at the German Parliament.

It said Former President Kufuor, who would have discussions with executives of KAF, is expected to be hosted to a launch with Dr Gerd Wahlers, Deputy Secretary General of KAF.

The statement said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, NPP National Chairman, who have also been invited by KAF, would accompany former President Kufuor on the trip, and the team is expected back home on Wednesday, 15th September 2010.
