Management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has denied any wrong doing in failing to release the body of the 22-year- old Richmond Osei .aka. Tawiah, who died as a result of police brutality to his family for burial.

Tawiah was allegedly brutalized to death by the police on patrol duties after he was mistaken as a thief.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kwame Friempong, the family of the deceased failed to submit the required documentation including three death certificates to the hospital as required by law before the remains of the deceased could be released to them.

The final funeral rites for the 22-year-old Richmond Osei was scheduled to take off on Thursday June 9 at Krofrom but management of the hospital refused to release the body to the family.

This stalled the funeral because management of KATH insisted they will only release the remains of Tawiah after they have receive an official clearance from the Ghana Police Service.

The hospital has also denied asking the family of the deceased to render an unqualified apology for denigrating the hospital and its members and invoking curses on them in the aftermath of Tawiah’s death.

"The procedure is that the family will go to the birth and death registry department with the cause of death certificate and then they will prepare your death and burial permit for you and present the certificates to the Pathology unit at the hospital and if there is no other thing to clear, then the body is release to the family, this family has failed or has not been unable to present these documents to the pathology unit, and therefore there is no way the unit can release the body to them," he explained.
