The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has commenced the registration of traders at the Kumasi Central Market prior to the construction of a new complex.

A new market has been designed to meet modern standards, as part of efforts to end the perennial fires that have annually engulfed the place.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the assembly, Okuma Nyame, told Accra News Monday February 15, 2016 the exercise would involve the registration of persons who own stalls, sheds, stores, or other spots in the market for business.

He said there would be no charge for registration as the exercise was being conducted to create a database for easier distribution of spots once construction of the new market had been completed.

The PRO also dispelled rumours that persons owning stalls and shops in the old market would be refused places in the new market after its completion.

He also disclosed that the Kejetia Lorry Terminal works would be completed before the Central Market project is set underway, adding that registration of traders at the Central Market would continue indefinitely.
