It’s easy to make promises in opposition – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Mahama has observed that it is easier to make promises when you are in opposition than in government.

According to him, being in opposition gives one a very simplistic view of things, until they step into government.

The Comment by the President comes on the back of the numerous promises being made by his main contender Nana Akufo-Addo, who among other things, has promised to construct at least one factory in every district should he win the December polls.

The NPP flagbearer has also promised to give every constituency one million dollars for infrastructural development if he assumes power.

Addressing captains of industry in Accra as part of his campaign in the region, Mr Mahama made references to some of the promises made by US president-elect Donald Trump and said the picture of affairs is always different and complicated once you are in government.

“We need to watch world affairs and the way things are playing out with Brexit; with the US elections —Trump’s surprise win against all the polls and all that, and to see how his world view will affect America’s relations with the rest of the world.

“I believe that things will settle. Often when you are outside government you have a very simplistic view of things and so you can just say when I come I’ll do this and I’ll do that and when you get into office, you find out that the realities are not as easy as you thought it was,” he stated.

He added: “ I’ll build a wall here, I’ll do this here, and I’ll put a factory in every district. I’ll build this everywhere. It’s easy for you to say all these things when you are outside government but when you come in and the reality catches up with you, then you realize that things are not as easy”.
