The public has been cautioned to be responsible with the use of fire crackers during the yuletide to avoid fire outbreaks.

"We should be careful because the season is characterised by dry weather."

Mr George Ayisi, Head of Public Relations, National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO) told the Ghana News Agency that although there was a ban on the use of fire crackers, people still celebrated with them.

He said people should thus avoid getting into trouble unnecessarily because of the crackers, adding, "Direct the crackers properly so you do not endanger lives and property."

Mr. Ayisi said hunters who flashed out animals through starting fires to smoke them out, also risked bush fires through their activities and said it was worth noting that such actions was illegal and could end up in serious trouble with the law.

Mr Ayiysi advised smokers to make sure there was no fire on their cigarette sticks when disposing them off, because sparks that appeared negligible were enough to start a huge fire.

He urged people to remember to unplug electrical gadgets when leaving their homes and offices, to minimise the possibility of fire outbreaks.

Mr Ayisi encouraged the public to celebrate the season moderately to avoid careless acts and accidents.
