'IGP must fish out ‘terror gangs’ within Police Service'

Franklin Cudjoe Franklin Cudjoe

Founding President and CEO of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe is calling on the most senior Police Officer in the country to ensure the proper procedural punishment is meted out to his “boys” who acted “unprofessionally” on demonstrators in Accra last Wednesday.

According to Mr. Cudjoe, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan must lead an investigation into the action by the police force.

The Police clashed with defenseless groups – namely, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), Alliance for Accountable Governance, (AFAG) and Movement for Change (MFC) as they match to the Electoral Commission office to petition for new voters’ register.

The peaceful rally ended in violence after the police fired tear gas, water cannon and beat some protesters who tried to veer off their approved route.

Speaking on the issue on Accra-based CITI FM, Saturday - Franklin Cudjoe harshly described the law enforcement officers captured on camera for brutalizing civilians as “terror gang” in the police service.

“Those gangs must face the law. The IGP must fish them out” he said.
