Samira Bawumia, the wife of the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has praised the competence Nana Akufo-Addo, the presidential nominee of the NPP.

“I strongly believed in Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP policies that we were proposing,” she said on Wednesday.

Mrs. Bawumia recently received huge criticism following her fierce condemnation of the President John Mahama administration, stating that the president will go down in history as the most incompetent president to have led Ghana.

"We are saying to the NDC that we see you alright...you want us to see you, we see you, but we see incompetence, we see you, but we see corruption, we see you, but we see bad management, we see you, but we see bad governance, we see you, but we want change, we see you but we want Ghana to move forward," she told supporters at Akojo Park in Tema recently.

Angered by her comments, Ghana’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Saeed Sinari launched barrage of vitriolic attacks on her saying “If this girl with a mouth like that of crocodile should be offered to me for free to marry, I swear to God I would add the dowry to her and throw her back to her parents.”

But speaking in an interview with Joy FM Wednesday, Mrs. Bawumia said the attacks on her were uncalled for, claiming that her comments had been misrepresented.

“I spoke on a platform. Everybody heard what I have said. It was live telecast and the sound bite are there. There was deliberate attempt to misrepresent what I said and they said that I had called the president a certain word, based on that people were attacking me—based on a false allegation,” she said.

She added that “it is not so much what I actually said. It is the misrepresentation that people have attached. So, they have not bothered to ascertain the truth of what I have said.”
