The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary candidate-elect for Abuakwa North, Gifty Twum-Ampofo, has pledged to mobilize more votes in the constituency than ever before to help the party win back power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

She said even though she is relatively a newcomer on the political terrain, she has the wherewithal to canvass for more votes to solidify the gains of the party and retain the seat, stressing that the level of unity is a sure sign of victory for the party in the impending elections.

She made this observation when she paid a courtesy call on the party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo at his Nima residence, Friday.
Madam Twum-Ampofo won the Abuakwa North NPP Parliamentary primary with 207 votes after beating two other contenders, Kyei Brobbey and Isaac Osei Ampadu who garnered 27 and 104 votes respectively.

The primary was spurred by the demise of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, who was the Member of Parliament for the area and on the ticket of the elephant family.
A by-election is expected to be held on March 29, 2016.
However, the NDC as well as some major political parties like the People’s National Convention (PNC), Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) have opted out of the by-election, making the event a no contest for the NPP.

Nana Akufo-Addo on his party assured the new parliamentary candidate of his full support and urged her to be guided by the principle of working to improve on the wellbeing of the constituents.

“That is your task, and that should always be at the back of your mind”, he noted.

He added: “JB was not an ordinary MP. You are succeeding him and this should tell you that you have a big task ahead of you. Everything I have heard so far points to the fact that you can do the job, and that is why the people of Abuakwa have elevated you to this position, to be their representative in Parliament. We must win this by-election decisively to show Ghanaians that this is and will remain an NPP stronghold.”
