The transfer saga went on for far too long.

The ‘will he’ or ‘will he not’ had a different team tagged with it for every other day. AS Roma, Arsenal, Liverpool, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, to mention a few.

Finally, Andre Dede Ayew joined English Premier League side Swansea City.

The move was perfect and he didn’t take long to settle in the team from Wales having a wonderful preparation to the Premier League season.

On Saturday, Andre Ayew made his Premier League debut against Champions Chelsea and boy did he crush it.

The Ghanaian opened his personal account and Swansea’s season with the first of two goals scored by the Wales club.

The delighted Black Stars vice-captain had this to say after his dream debut:

“They are the champions with a great squad, but we managed to get a great result.

“I was very happy with my goal, particularly as the squad has really helped me out. Hopefully I will continue working hard to help the team.

“Bafe had a good header saved, and then I had my first shot blocked. But I got up quickly and managed to score with the second shot. It was a really great moment for myself and, more importantly, the team.

“We must keep the spirit we have. We showed a lot of character. This is only the beginning for us.

On Chelsea having to play with ten men over half an hour after their goalkeeper was sent off, Andre said:

“Even though it was ten versus eleven they were still very dangerous. We had to be careful even when we were attacking.

“As they were at home and this is the first game, it was important that we got a point and I think that was the least that our supporters deserved.

“It was my first game in the Premier League and I’m always learning. The intensity is different and I have to work hard to get better and better week-in week-out for the team.

“But my team-mates, the manager and the coaches are all pushing me so that I can do more and more for the team.”
