Vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has rubbished talk that Black Stars manager Avram Grant is on the verge of being fired by the Football Association. Coach Grant has come under intense pressure to up his performances with the Stars after failing to get a result in their last four games.

But according to the FA’s number 2 man, the FA has not and does not intend to fire the manager.

“I do not know where you are getting your information from. Avram signed a 28-month contract with us and we do not intend to truncate the contract. Yes it is a performance-based contract that we agreed on, but inasmuch as the results have not been as good as we all want, we have not taken any decision in that regard. If we take any decision in the near future, we would let you know,” he told Class Sports editor Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.

“I can confirm to you that we had a management meeting today and nothing of that sort came up.”

The Black Stars play the Pharoahs of Egypt in their next World Cup qualifier in November in a game they have to win to keep their dreams of qualifying for a fourth successive World Cup alive.
