Government has warned cement dealers to stop selling a bag of cement for as much as 23 cedis per bag.
According to the Minister for Trade and Industry Hannah Tetteh, this does not commensurate with the factory price of 16 cedis per bag.
In an interview with XYZ Business, Madam Tetteh said government will have no option than to import cement if the price of the commodity remains high.
He urged the distributors to desist from creating artificial prices.
“We are monitoring the situation to see what the price will be like, if the market is still keeping the prices at a level that we think is unreasonable bearing in mind what the factory price is, we may have a situation where we would import cement, when we do that it will have an effect on the distributors businesses” Ms Tetteh said.
She added that “therefore I encourage them not to create an artificial shortage for us that will compel us as government to come take other measures to make sure that there is enough cement on the market reasonably priced to be able to undertake construction projects
