Interior minister Mark Woyongo has assured that Ghana is still safe in spite of the recent arrests of arms in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

A large cache of arms belonging to a 72-year-old Burkinabe was arrested early this week. A couple more were impounded by the Police on Wednesday.

Even though the owners claimed the ammunition were in transit to other West African countries including Niger, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire, there are fears some might have settled in Ghana.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Thursday, Mr. Woyongo said there is no cause for alarm.

“We shouldn’t worry, there is no cause for alarm. Everything is under control. Our people are up to the task and there good collaboration between the ministry of interior and the ministry of Defense.

“During the yuletide the police and military will be working to ensure that we have peace in the country and also ensure that Ghanaians enjoy the festivities without any problem,” he stated.
