Ghana's U17 set for tournament in Namibia

Ghana's national U17 side the Black Starlets have been invited to play in a four nation tournament in Namibia next month.

The Black Starlets will be joined by their counterparts from the host nation Namibia, South Africa, and German side Westphalia.

The four-nation competition will be held in Walvis Bay, Namibia between 19-24 March 19-24.

The Ghanaians are expected to arrive in the Southern African nation on 19 March after they were invited for the second successive time to play in the competition.

The Black Starlets were the winners of the bi-annual tournament back in 2014 beating Westphalia, in the final through penalties, while South Africa finished third and hosts Namibia fourth.

Tournament Director Roger Kambatuku of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said Westphalia are expected in Namibia by Mar. 17 while South Africa and Ghana will arrive on Mar. 19 in Walvis Bay.

The tournament is normally held at the coast as it coincides with the popular, Namibian Newspaper Cup which mostly takes place inland.

"They are all developmental tournaments and we take serious pride in them as a country and for us not to clash with the Namibian Cup in terms of public attendance, we prefer taking it to the coast and so far it works well for everyone," said Kambatuku.

Last edition of the tournament featured eight games and 21 goals.

Ghana have started their preparations for the competition by recruiting new players for the Black Starlets.

They started their training in Prampram on Monday and are hoping to be in top shape for the competition which is four weeks away.
