Ghana get boost in latest Fifa World Ranking

Ghana have moved a place up in the latest Fifa World Ranking released on Thursday.

July’s ranking sees Ghana in the 36th position – one place better than they did in June - with a corresponding increase in total accumulated points by 21.

Placed 25th in July last year, Ghana now find themselves between Cote d’Ivoire (35) and Albania (37) on the ladder.

The Black Stars’ last assignment was a 2-0 away win over Mauritius in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.

On the continental level, Ghana is still third behind Algeria (32) and Cote d’Ivoire (35), and ahead of Senegal (41) and Egypt (43).

Tunisia (45), Cameroon (53), Morocco (54), Congo DR (59) and Mali (61) complete the top 10.

Back on the global stage, there was no change among the top five, with Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile maintaining their positions in that order.

European champions Portugal have moved up by two places to sixth, followed by France (moved up ten places), Spain, Brazil and Italy to wrap up the top 10.

Ghana’s highest ever performance since the ranking’s introduction in August 1993 remains a 14 place in February 2008, while their worst placement was an 89 position in June 2004.

The Black Stars return to action in September when they take on Rwanda – currently ranked 111 - in the Afcon qualifiers.

The next edition of the ranking will be released on August 11.
