A superb second half Alexander Tettey strike was enough to seal a vital victory for Norwich over 10-man Southampton at Carrow Road.

Southampton's Victor Wanyama earned a second yellow for a dangerous two-footed challenge on Odjija before the latter rolled the ball to Alexander Tettey to strike past Stekelenberg in a game with few clear cut chances.

Southampton started the brighter side when a deflected cross found Long, who looped his header over the bar.

Norwich responded well with some tidy possession, and had a golden chance to nick the first goal when a bobbling ball over the top wasn't dealt with by Southampton, and Johnny Howson scuffed his shot inches wide.

Howson was involved in another bad miss for Norwich when Hoolahan played him in after Van Dijk was dispossessed, but his squared pass across goal couldn't find the boot of Mbokani. Norwich had yet another chance when Redmond playing in Martin, whose reverse pass gave Mbokani a yard of space to poke into the side netting from close range.

Southampton carved out the best chance of the game yet when Martina's sublime through pass from out wide put Long in the clear, but Rudd made himself big to thwart him.
