President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has charged State Protocol to ensure that media personnel who cover state events are not manhandled by security officers, the Chairman of the Ghana 60 Years On Planning Committee, Lord Commey, has revealed.
It is recalled that a cameraman wrestled with a police officer in front of the president while the national anthem was being played at the forecourt of parliament ahead of the State of the Nation address on 21 February.
Speaking at a news conference, Mr Commey urged the media to comply with regulations for the 6 March independence parade.
He noted that putting the media in the bucket of a truck to cover the event, as happened in 2015, was unacceptable as Ghana celebrates 60 years.
Mr Commey pledged to treat the media with respect and dignity on Independence Day.
In all, 180 accreditations will be made available to the media with 2000 VVIPs expected to grace the anniversary at the Black Star Square on March 6.
