FIFA presidential candidates in Ghana ahead of WAFU congress

Three FIFA presidential candidates have arrived in the Ghanaian capital of Accra on a campaign mission ahead of next month's elections.

Three out of the five Fifa presidential aspirants will make appearances at the 2016 Wafu Zone B General Assembly in Accra on Tuesday.

Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa and Gianni Infantino have already arrived in Ghana while HRH Prince Ali Al Hussein will arrive later in the day.

Holding at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, the Congress will provide the candidates a platform to canvass for votes ahead of the general elections of February 26.

The meeting will give the candidates the chance to meet with the Ghanaian media to explain their plans for World football.

“Three of the candidates who will contest in next month's FIFA presidential elections will be in Accra during the General Assembly of the WAFU Zone B which will be held on Tuesday, January 12,” the GFA stated in a publication on its official website.

“HRH Prince Ali Al Hussein, Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa and Gianni Infantino will be in Accra to present themselves to delegates of the sub-regional football body who will be at Tuesday's congress as the other two aspirants, Jerome Champagne and Tokyo Sexwale, are expected to send their representatives.

“Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa was expected to arrive in Accra on Sunday evening while the two others will be in Ghana on Monday.”

The one-day congress will also see GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi seek re-election as Wafu Zone B president.

Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria, Togo make up the body.
