FDA arrests three Nigerians with fake LDC mouthwash

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) with assistance from the Ghana Police, have arrested three Nigerians, who have flooded the Ghanaian market with a liquid formulation called, Light Duty Cleaner (LDC), claiming it is a medicinal preparation for oral hygiene.

The men, who were arrested in the Northern Region, according to a statement issued by the FDA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hudu Mogtari, are helping the Police in their investigations.

“The Northern Regional office of the FDA with the assistance of the Northern Regional Police has affected the arrest of three (3) Nigerian men on the matter and they are assisting the Police in their investigations”, the statement said.

The FDA, explained that original LDC, which is a household cleaning solution product from GNCD, has been reformulated as a medicinal preparation on the market making it fake.

Per the inscription on it label, the fake preparation, claims it can be used for all skin infections, foot rot, wound dressing, bad breath, mouth wash, ring worm, odour, shaving rash, mildew, onycholysis and, ladies white.

But the FDA, has advised consumers against the patronage of the Light Duty Cleaner, as they could not guarantee it efficacy and safety.

The Authority, has drawn the attention of the public to be wary of persons who come to them with certain products purporting to have curative properties or the ability to manage one form of health condition or another.

“The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) will like to use this opportunity to advice consumers against the patronage of the said product and to beware of persons who come to them with all manner of products purporting to have curative properties or the ability to manage one form of health condition or another”, the statement said.

It assured the general public of its continuous resolve to protect public health and safety.
