Ensure that peace is maintained - Group tells government

A group known as backbone of good governance has expressed their displeasure at the number of Ghanaian Citizens whose names has been deleted from the voters register.

They allege that others who were not NHIS registrants had their names mistakenly deleted.

‘It is regrettable to note that if measures are not put in place to register them most of these Ghanaian citizen would be disenfranchised during the Election Day and that can destabilize the existing peace we are enjoying as a nation

We therefore call on the government to ensure that the peace is maintained before and during the upcoming election by giving the commission the requisite support to undertake it mandate

We again call on government to make provision for those who have to travel from the remote part of their district capital to register since the re-registration is currently taking place in the commission district offices around the country, the Group stated.

PRESS RELEASE

GOVERNMENT SHOULD ENSURE THAT THE PEACE IS MAINTAINED

We wish to express our displeasure on huge number of Ghanaian Citizen whose names has been deleted from the voter register some of whom use NHIS card to registered but others entered through the due process yet their names are mistakenly deleted.

It is regretting to note that if measures are not put in place to register them most of these Ghanaian citizen would be disenfranchise during the Election Day and that can lead to the destabilizing the existing peace we are enjoying as a nation

We therefore call on the government to ensure that the peace is maintained before and during the upcoming election by giving the commission the requisite support to undertake it mandate

We again call on the government to make provision for those who have to travel from the remote part of their district capital to register since the re-registration is currently taking place in the commission district offices around the country.

Whiles we welcome the Supreme Court decision we call on Ghanaian to have confident in the institution set up by the constitution to administer the state. We challenge the electoral commission to rise above the task to ensure that all credible citizens whose names are deleted are re-registered

We also appeal to the commission to extend the current ten (10) days duration to twenty (20) day to enable every qualify voter to re-registered

We insist that instead of the Commission holding the re-registration in it various district offices we require that registration centers are created close to the people to enable them have easy access to the centers.

Again we call on the commission to intensify it public education on the exercise to create more public awareness

This will creates the opportunity for every citizen of Ghana to participate in the fourth coming election and that will help maintain the peace we need to develop as a country.
