EC has no record of NHIS registrants - Sir John

A former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie has revealed that the Electoral Commission (EC) has no record of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registrants on the country’s electoral register.

He claims to have the EC on record indicating it does not have such a list warning that if they dare bring any cooked number of registrants, he will prove to them that they are lying to Ghanaians

“If they go and bring any bogus list of the NHIS registrants I will challenge them”, he said.

He states that any list of names that will be presented to court on the next adjourned date will amount to concocting figures and that will not augur well for the country’s electoral process.

Speaking on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, the NPP stalwart disclosed that he foresees a directive from the courts for the compilation of a new voter’s register which in his view can be done in only 5 days.

“We can conduct a new voter’s register in 5 days. We have the resources to compile a new register. Nigerians are willing to support us with their machines to help us to conduct this exercise. I can see it, I can smell, I can feel it and if it doesn’t come, I don’t know what will happen”, he revealed.

He believes that no polling station has more than 1,500 registrants which could easily be done between 3 and 5 days.

Sir John maintained that the only antidote to the controversies surrounding voters’ registration is to allow for the compilation of a new voters register.

“”The best advice I can give to Charlotte and her EC is that, let’s get a new register” he stated.
