Diplomatic Passport restored to Madam Fathia

Accra, July 29, GNA - Madam Fathia Nkrumah, widow of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, President of the First Republic, has had her Diplomatic Passport restored to her by the Government.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports said the Passport was issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ghana Mission in Cairo, Egypt, to Madam Fathia at her villa in Maadi, Egypt.

Madam Fathia was unable to travel to South Africa to receive a posthumous award on behalf of her husband because she did not have a Diplomatic Passport.

The Passport was restored to her through the intervention of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, who visited her at her villa on July 7 when he led a 14-memeber delegation to Egypt to bid for Ghana's hosting of African Cup Nation (CAN) 2008. During the visit, he presented her with a passport application form, which he witnessed to enable her to obtain the Passport. Mr Baah-Wiredu, on behalf of President John Agyekum Kufuor, presented 3,000 dollars to Madam Fathia.
