Comoros will be tough - Afriyie

Black Stars management committee chairman, George Afriyie, admits Comoros were a tough side in the first leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Stade de Mohammed Said Cheikh on Friday.

The African giants could not make the second round a mere formality as minnows Les Coelecantes proved stubborn to accrue a 0-0 score line.

“Yes, it was a disappointed result considering the fact that we had quality and with our pedigree and our
recent performances we thought we were going to beat them,” Afriyie said.

“We were very confident but we had to be cautious at the same because you agree with me that it’s a country of almost 700,000 population and about 250,000 living in France and half of that based in Marseille. With this, there is no doubt they possess some quality.”

“Out of the 23 players, 22 of them were living in France and some scattered around Europe. So this day you don’t write your opponents off though I agree with you that looking at the FIFA ranking, they are above 100 and so it was going to be an easy task.”

“They gave us a very tough opposition and I think that they are a good side,” he concluded.

Ghana will host Comoros on Tuesday at the Baba Yara Stadium knowing a scoring draw will see them eliminated from the qualifiers.
