Committee set up to probe Starbow crash

Government has set up a six-member committee to investigate and make recommendations on the accident of domestic airliner, Starbow, which overshot the runway and crash-landed at the Tamale Airport on October 6, 2015.

The committee has been given 30 working days to produce its preliminary report.

Inaugurating the committee in Accra on Friday, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms. Joyce A. Bawa Mogtari, said being the member of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), it was mandatory for the state to investigate and ascertain the cause of the accident in order to put in place measures that would forestall a recurrence.

The committee is chaired by Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey. The other five include Mr Ellis Hugh-Tamakloe, Mr Emmanuel N. Quao, Mr Kenneth Kwawukume, Group Captain Adu Gyamfi and Wing Commander Mike Ayesu.

On October 6, this year, Starbow's BAe aircraft with registration 9GSBB crash-landed at the Tamale Airport. The front tyres of the plane broke into the cockpit.

It is mandatory per the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s regulations and the Ghana Civil Aviation Act 678 of 2004, for a committee to be set up to investigate the aircraft accident.
