Chaos at Upper Manya over NDC primaries

Supporters of Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, a candidate in the just ended National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary primary in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency of the Eastern region have poured on the street to protest the results.

The angry youth wearing red hand band burnt car tyres in the middle of major roads in Assesewa to express their displeasure.

Addressing the angry youth, Nyarko said the results of the election cannot be accepted since the figures were massaged in connivance with the incumbent MP Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, the Electoral Commission officials and constituency executives.

According to him, the process in which the results were collated and declaration done the following day by EC ‘officials’ was premised on fraud. He is therefore calling for fresh election in the constituency in order to avert chaos in the NDC since most party members in the constituency are peeved about the outcome.

The Upper Manya constituency results were not declared due to a protest on Saturday. Tetteh’s camp alleged that some figures have been cooked by EC officials in collusion with the MP which shot the lawmaker into victory even though he was on the verge of defeat.

The election was declared early Sunday morning by a non-official of the electoral commission in the absence of the candidates’ agents. According to the EC, the incumbent polled 2,750 votes, Nyakor had 2,589 while the other candidate Raymond Azu secured 475 votes.
